Steam To Overtake Retail PC Game Sales In Next Three Months

by Mike Bendel on June 2, 2008 @ 4:37 pm

Speaking at a private event held at its Seattle headquarters, Valve founder Gabe Newell talked Steam. Just how well is the download service performing in comparison to retail channels? Growth is up 200 percent, according to Newell. In the next three months, he expects game sales on the service to surpass that of retail.

Right now we’re seeing close to 200 per cent growth in the alternative ways of connecting with customers.

It will actually pass over in the next three months, how much of our business is coming from retail versus how much is coming from other channels.

Good to hear. Valve deserves all of the praise if you ask me. Steam is bar none the most convenient and easy-to-use digital distribution service. Plus with new features like Steam Cloud due out soon, the future is looking bright.
