Kaz: Sony Is Competing Against All Forms Of Entertainment

Nintendo and Microsoft? Sure, they’re big names in the console gaming market, no doubt. But they aren’t Sony’s only competitors. Not by a long shot. The PlayStation 3 is competing against the entire entertainment space, according to outspoken company president Kaz Hirai:

I think that PS3, PS2 and PSP are all entertainment platforms so I feel that our competition is not Microsoft or Nintendo, but basically any form of entertainment that is competing for the consumers’ attention.

What a difference a year makes, Kaz. Last year, the PS3 was said to be nothing more than a game machine.

Umm Kaz. That's just the problem. Your console being more than a gaming machine is exactly the problem. You're focusing less on the gaming side and more on everything else.

If you'd just focus more on the gaming side, then mabye you'd I don't know... sell more games and PS3's in general? Just a thought.

I also agree the playstation as a brand has become to spread... They should do some more focusing, like finally dropping the ps2 and make the ps3 backwards compadible. Upgrade the snitzels out of the psp instead of making more devices to put on it...

But still... Thumbs up for playstion!
