It’s been just over 10 years since EA launched the Battlefield series. The first entry, Battlefield 1942, was released to plenty of acclaim. If you’re looking for a trip back in time (within a trip back in time since this is a military shooter), you may be interested to know that EA is offering free downloads of the classic FPS.

Of course, if you want to take advantage of the offer, you’ll have to do so through Origin. For some folks that may not be such a big deal, but for plenty of others it just might be on account of Origin not being very popular.

The good thing is that you have some time to really think about this. You’ll be able to snag Battlefield 1942 for free up until March 1, 2013. So yeah, if you’re on the fence about this whole Origin business, you can think long and hard about whether this is worth it to you.
