Original PaRappa Designer Would Like to Make a New Game

PaRappa the Rapper will always be heralded as a PlayStation classic. Now that the titular rapping dog is headed to PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, gamers can get reacquainted with the charming character. Unfortunately, PaRappa artist Rodney Greenblat isn’t too stoked about seeing the character in a game with weapons and heavy-hitting brawls. “I’m very happy that Parappa is making a bit of a comeback, but not so happy about him being in a weapon-filled battle game,” Greenblat told NotEnoughShaders.

Despite the artist’s personal feelings about PaRappa entering the fray in Sony’s upcoming fight-fest, Greenblat still sees some positivity here. With Sony including the character in PlayStation All-Stars, he hopes to see a comeback down the road. “Actually the Battle Royale game is fun, and I have to do what I can to get Parappa back in the game scene,” he continued. “My hope is that Sony realizes the golden true potential of Parappa and asks me to design some new games. I’ve learned a lot, and I think Parappa could be great again.”

So, who wants to see a new PaRappa game? I see a lot of you raising your hands. Well, let’s just hope Greenblat can put his skills to good use once again and hopefully design the art for a PaRappa title down the road. Already the artist has kept busy with other projects including mascot design for a Japanese snack company, art shows, and the charming yet heavily flawed Major Minor’s Majestic March for the Wii. I’m willing to bet that a lot of folks will overlook that last one as long as we get a new PaRappa.
