Update: Speaking in an interview during Midway’s Gamers Day event in Las Vegas, Epic Games VP Mark Rein revealed that the 360 version of UT III will not support user-created mods at launch, according to consumer site VideoGamer.

They’ve [PlayStation 3 owners] got mods! They’ve got their thing. They’ve got easily exchangeable user created mods. Whether this game [Unreal Tournament III 360] gets that or not, it won’t have it at ship. They’ve got they’re thing and they should be happy. They’ve got a great thing going.

Midway and Epic Games announced today that the Xbox 360 version of Unreal Tournament III will arrive this later this summer. As a consolation for the long wait, 360 owners will enjoy two new characters, five all-new expansive maps and an exclusive multiplayer split-screen mode.

Utilizing Epic’s world class Unreal Engine 3, Unreal Tournament 3 will feature two new characters, five new expansive maps and split screen capability, all exclusive to Xbox 360. Unreal Tournament 3 has already shipped more than one million units worldwide for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and Windows PC.
