No PS Vita Price Cut Coming This Year

Don’t expect a price drop on the Vita before 2012. Speaking to Eurogamer at this year’s Gamescom, Sony Worldwide Studios head Shuhei Yoshida said it’s still “too early” for the handheld platform’s price tag to get a nice cut.

The Sony Worldwide boss mentioned that the company was trying to entice gamers to buy the Vita by releasing bundles that may make the value of the system just a bit more appealing. Additionally, he stated that the engineering team was working on ways to make sure that gamers could get a Vita for less. “Of course, cost reduction is one area our engineering team is working on,” explained Yoshida. “But we just launched the platform earlier this year. It takes time to do so.”

I can definitely a see a price cut a-comin’ for the Vita sometime in 2013. Maybe we’ll get some more bundles, or maybe the platform will just get a reduction out of the blue like the 3DS. Knowing that Sony is at least discussing a price cut means some folks may want to hold off on making their big Vita purchase. I know I can wait it out.
