Variety: Rockstar’s GTA IV To Shatter Game Sales Records

by Mike Bendel on April 15, 2008 @ 9:34 pm

According to a report from Variety, citing sources close to publisher Take-Two, Rockstar’s upcoming open world crime thriller Grand Theft Auto IV is anticipated to generate over $400 million in its first week.

Such a number would best the current record of $300 million set by the self-proclaimed “biggest entertainment launch in history,” aka Halo 3.

Would we be surprised if GTA IV garners a grand total of $400 million in its first week? No. It’s very possible given the install base and since the game is being released as a multi-platform title, it has an even greater chance of outselling Halo 3, which of course was released as an Xbox 360 exclusive.
