Thatgamecompany Reveals Journey Collector’s Edition Contents

Yesterday we reported that Journey Collector’s Edition had been confirmed by thatgamecompany. The developer revealed on Twitter that Flow and Flower would be included on the retail disc, but it didn’t disclose further details. Thatgamecompany was probably just waiting for the weekend to pass, because today the studio revealed all the contents that would be included in Journey Collector’s Edition, as well as pricing and release date info.

Journey Collector’s Edition will hit North American retailers on August 28, and it will sport a nice $29.99 price tag. As someone who just played Journey and never actually got to experience Flow or Flower, I’ll definitely be picking this up. But the extras also warrant interest from fans of thatgamecompany who may have already played all of their previous works. Here’s everything you can expect in Journey Collector’s Edition, as announced by thatgamecompany:

  • 30-minute behind-the-scenes documentary about the making of Journey
  • Creator commentary play-throughs of all three games
  • Three exclusive mini-games from thatgamecompany
  • Concept art and screenshot galleries for all three games
  • Original soundtracks for all three games
  • PlayStation 3 dynamic themes and wallpapers
  • PlayStation Network avatars including eight exclusive new Journey avatars never released before
  • Official game trailers and developer diary videos
  • Reversible cover art

Now, in my original post, I predicted that Journey Collector’s Edition would include soundtracks for all three games, an art book, a poster, and developer video diaries. Two out of four isn’t that bad. Then again, that reversible cover is, like, a mini-poster; and those screenshot and art galleries are technically a digital art book, so I’m just going to say I was entirely correct with my predictions.

Regarding the three included mini-games, these sweet little bonuses are thatgamecompany-developed projects created for 24-Hour Game Jam. Each mini-game was created in 24 hours, and they should provide yet another look at thatgamecompany’s legacy. Watch out for Journey Collector’s Edition in just a couple of months.
