Maguire: Digital Distribution Will Rule In 2018

Ten years from now, most folks will purchase new video game releases directly via online digital distribution services such as the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live, rather than going through a third-party retailer. Or so says Sony Computer Entertainment Europe exec Ray Maguire:

Ten years from now the ratio of games sales will have gone from 90 per cent in-store to 90 per cent online.

Plausible. But 90 percent? Until ISPs start offering faster speeds with less-restrictive bandwidth limitations, I can’t see digital distribution replacing the retail market to such a degree for games.
