After the trigger-happy shooter Vanquish, Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami’s next project will mark a return to his roots. Bethesda announced today it is collaborating with Mikami’s development studio Tango Gameworks on Zwei, a codename for an all-new survival horror title.

In contrast to the Resident Evil franchise, which has blended heavy action elements with horror in more recent installments, Zwei is described as a “pure survival horror” experience. According to Mikami, the aim is to “push the limits of fear and exhilaration.”

“A true ‘survival horror’ game is one in which the player confronts and overcomes fear,” said Shinji Mikami, president and creative director for Tango Gameworks. He added, “I’ve found my focus and once again I’m striving for pure survival horror. I am being very hands-on in the development of this game to ensure that the quality is there. Rest assured.”
