PSP Tops Japanese Sales Charts, Again

by Mike Bendel on March 21, 2008 @ 6:53 pm

Once again, the PSP has managed to pull ahead of Nintendo’s Wii and DS according to Media Create sales figures for the week of March 10. This is not a spike in sales. The PSP has been selling consistently well each week, with an impressive 918,997 units sold this year in Japan alone. For comparison’s sake, Nintendo has pushed 926,177 DS units during the same timeframe.

The impending release of Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G, which is due out later this month in Japan, should help drive PSP hardware sales even higher. Good times ahead for Sony.

* PSP – 57,651
* Nintendo Wii – 55,845
* Nintendo DS – 53,266
* PlayStation 3 – 14,934
* PlayStation 2 – 9,930
* Xbox 360 – 1,744

Latest news from Sony is that this is a false report by Sony Fanboys and the Nintendo DS is still a giant in the Sales Charts.

I bet the sales numbers are legit. After playing GOW and crysis core heavily for a few days now I took a glance at my sons DS and it looked like gameboy color to me. Plus with so much awesome homebrew being released no one has to be scared to mess or hack the PSP anymore unlike back in the day before pandora.
