Sony Pulls PS Vita Firmware 1.65 Over ‘Technical Fault’

Update: The US blog says the technical fault is related to “adhoc play in PSP titles.”

Sony has quickly yanked PS Vita firmware 1.65, deployed last night on Network Update, over an undisclosed ‘technical fault.’ An update issued through the PS Blog indicates users that already downloaded and installed the update can continue to use their Vita – so be rest assured that it’s not going to explode.

“PS Vita system software update 1.65 has been taken down temporarily due to a technical fault. For any customers who may have already downloaded the firmware, they can continue as normal. We will notify you once the latest system software update is available to download again,” reads the statement.

Given its large size for a minor update, there has been speculation that 1.65 contained some hidden security patches. Perhaps something was botched in that regard, who knows? At least there hasn’t been any reports of bricked Vita units over this mishap.
