Capcom Backs On-Disc DLC Delivery Method Despite BBB Complaints

Capcom’s caught quite a bit of flak over its decision to include DLC content on production discs, later activated by purchase of an unlock code. While some disgruntled purchasers have taken the issue to the BBB (Better Business Bureau), Capcom has no plans to change its delivery method.

“While Capcom is sorry that some of its fans are not happy about the chosen method of delivery for the DLC, we believe that this method will provide more flexible and efficient gameplay throughout the game’s lifecycle,” wrote the publisher in response to a BBB complaint over Street Fighter x Tekken.

“There is effectively no distinction between the DLC being ”locked” behind the disc and available for unlocking at a later date, or being available through a full download at a later date, other than delivery mechanism. ”

For what it’s worth, Capcom raises a good point, in that there have likely been cases where DLC was finished before a game shipped then added to download stores at a later date — and we’d never know. At least Capcom is being upfront about the practice, we suppose. Don’t like it? Time to vote with your dollar.
