Davee Uncovers sceKermit Driver, Communication API Between PS Vita and PSP Emulator

Well-known PSP homebrew developer Davee has uncovered a set of API-level functions, collectively known as sceKermit, that Sony uses to communicate with PS Vita hardware through the built-in PSP emulator. By transfer of specialized packets, Kermit acts as the gateway to access hardware devices such as the Memory Stick, Flash filesystem, USB, Power Control, WLAN, and more. It’s a very interesting find, one that could lead to exposing information on the Vita’s internals.

Davee has posted up a wealth of technical info over on his blog for those curious. Partially reversed sceKermit driver functions are also available on his Github for interested developers. It’s worth noting that this was found through a kernel exploit inside the PSP emulator. Other exploits — such as the one publicly released by Wololo and teck4 — are restricted to user mode and therefore unable to access the Kermit modules.
