Phantasy Star Online 2 producer Satoshi Sakai has broke word on the official Phantasy Star blog that fans of the series should look forward to a ‘surprise’ announcement soon. While there’s no direct indication it’s related, Sony is holding a presentation geared towards the PS Vita next week in Japan, which will highlight appearances from several game developers, including Sakai himself.

With Monster Hunter still MIA on the Vita, Phantasy Star could fill that much-needed niche to spur hardware sales in Japan. There’s also the fact that the series received multiple installments back on PSP. Progression-wise it’d make sense, but we’ll see.
