Taito is taking the Space Invaders franchise in a bold new direction. During a press conference today in Japan, the company announced that it is bringing Space Invaders Get Even to the Wii. As the title implies, players will take control of the iconic space invaders themselves and set out to destroy the entire human race and reign over the universe.

On your quest to destroy all of mankind, you’ll use the Wii Remote to control 300 invaders and direct the UFO using the Nunchuck attachment. Stages will be broken up into subsections of three, with each stage having its own distinct theme.

The title is expected to hit Japan later this year. No word on if it will be released on WiiWare or as a retail game disc. We’re leaning towards the latter.
