Ballmer: We’ll Support Blu-ray

by Mike Bendel on March 7, 2008 @ 10:09 am

Speaking at the Mix08 Internet conference in Las Vegas, Microsoft exec Steve Ballmer admitted that they have moved past the demise of Toshiba’s HD-DVD and plan on providing substantial support towards Blu-ray in the future.

We’ve already been working on, for example, in Windows, device driver support for Blu-ray drives and the like, and I think the world moves on. Toshiba has moved on. We’ve moved on, and we’ll support Blu-ray in ways that make sense.

Whether or not we will see Blu-ray on the Xbox 360 in the future is still unclear, but it is clear that Microsoft is in full support of the format.

I sincerely doubt sonty will give up the main thing that makes PS3 a better value than 360 unless sony charge them out the ass in royalties.
