Sony Reveals PS Vita AT&T Data Plans for US

Plan on springing for a 3G PS Vita? With just over a month to go until launch, Sony has revealed data plan pricing in collaboration with roaming partner AT&T.

Here’s the deets: two monthly plans will be on offer, a 250MB data package at $14.99/month and $25 for 2GB. No contract. The data limits are hardly surprising, considering the 20MB cap on downloads that was unearthed earlier.

Suffice to say, we find it hard to justify the extra premium that the 3G Vita commands. Perhaps it’d be worth it if AT&T offered a discount rate on contract, but that’s not happening. Either way, the value is questionable, seeing as 3G connectivity cannot be used for online gaming due to added latency. In fact, unless you fancy using the YouTube-less web browser, we don’t see the point at all.

... so... what is the point of 3G if it cant be used for gaming? Honestly... I don't need my game device to have 3G if it doesnt function beyond a way to download updates for shit.

The only advantage to 3G that I can see is being able to message friends and having the latest game updates. Definitely not worth the $15 minimum every month.

It's dumb that they don't allow 3G for gaming and just have servers based on latency. I used to play TF2 on a 3G connection, and except for peak hours, it was fully playable. Of course I could see what my latency was on each server so I would know if it was going to be laggy before I even joined a match (something I doubt the Vita will show).

It seems tethering with your phone will still give you the best experience since you will have the freedom of internet anywhere, without any of the 3G restrictions. Plus you only need one data plan, and you get the cheaper Vita.

I've recently pre-ordered the PS Vita WiFi only model here in Europe (The Netherlands to be exact). I personally never saw any reason to purchase the 3G version except for the fact it's the "complete" model. Gaming over 3G would be a no-go anyway, and here you'd have to pay like 1.5x or 2x the prices AT&T charges (I'm guessing here).

If you live where I do and you do get the 3G model; you either have too much money or you're an idiot.
