Wii Downloadable Add-on Content Coming

by Mike Bendel on February 22, 2008 @ 2:52 pm

Nintendo plans to follow in the footsteps of both Sony and Microsoft and allow developers to offer downloadable content for games on its Wii console. Nintendo Network Group manager Takashi Aoyama broke the news in his GDC speech today.

Wii owners will be able to use their Wii Points to purchase add-on content for disc-based and upcoming WiiWare titles.

Downloadable content is great. But where, exactly, are we going to store all this stuff? With the Virtual Console, WiiWare titles, and now DLC — the Wii’s 512MB of internal flash memory is going to fill up quick. Hopefully Nintendo will allow us to load DLC straight from an SD Card.

The problem wiith that is that the virtual console games can't be saved on the SD card. The Wii needed a HDD.

That's true... forgot that you can't load VC games off the SD Card. Same goes for the upcoming WiiWare titles.

Hopefully we'll be able to load the DLC straight from an SD Card.
