Pachter: HD-DVD Exit To Spark PS3 Sales

by Mike Bendel on February 19, 2008 @ 10:26 am

Now that HD-DVD is officially down for the count, analyst Wedbush Morgan Michael Pachter has stepped in to provide his insight over the matter. Specifically, Pachter is expecting PS3 sales to sore during the holiday season, as many retailers will be instructed to push the Blu-ray format and sell high-definition TV sets.

Longer term, I think it’s a huge boon for Sony, as most retail clerks will be instructed to push Blu-ray along with sales of HD monitors at holiday, so we should see a large increase in PS3 sales year-over-year at holiday

I think we all agree here. There’s no question that PS3 sales will flourish over the next few months at the expense of HD-DVD. But what about Microsoft? Will they consider releasing a Blu-ray add-on or an Xbox 360 with support for the format built-in? Pachter doesn’t think so, noting that both options are “unlikely.”

This wont Boost PS3 sales.... getting NON DELAYED games will and more "Exclusives" will. As long as M$ still has Halo, GoW, BioShock, etc, etc... 360 sales may still be better then the PS3 but not as good as the Wii lol

Unless your in Japan where the Asian Market backs Sony and Nintendo more then they do M$'s Xbox. Everywhere else in the world it's a Wii360 Dominated market.
