PSP Overheats In Child’s Pocket

by Mike Bendel on February 6, 2008 @ 4:04 pm

This morning, at around 9 a.m., a child was burned at Warner Middle School in Farmington Hills, Michigan, when the PSP in his pants pocket overheated and caught on fire.

Shortly following the incident, a teacher managed to separate the device from the boy and the school was placed in lockdown so that personnel could aid the child.

Police are still investigating the cause, but we have heard reports of third-party PSP batteries actually exploding before. In any case, you might want to be extra careful when placing that PSP in your pocket from now on.

that's what happens when your not on custom firmware

squee666 says:

yeh sony official firmware is known to spontaneously combust

frosty5689 says:

LMAOOOO>...> my psp only heats up when i play w/ ac adaptor pluged in. That kid must've done some insanely retarded stuff to his psp. Or he kept it on in his pocket-.-

Acerthief says:

Insanely restarded stuff -> Official Firmware.

Catching it on fire's too FTW. XD

and after this he/she's still gonna get scolded by his/her mom for bring their PSP to school. LMAO

frosty5689 says:

it should've just blew up instantly and blew the kid's legs to pieces=)

Hellcat says:

*lol*

Teh evilish quotes :D

Maybe he tried to hardmod his battery for Pandora and build a small shortcircuit in the battery....

I always suggest NOT to hardmod the battery....

Hanzo_f19 says:

lmao

This is what happens when kids try to use easy installers to make a Pandora xD (j/k)

Hellcat says:

It's when kids that know nothing about what they are doing act like they know what they are doing and are feeling cool doing so....

I know a whole forum of such kidz, funny most of the time :D

l00kd says:

wow my PSP just exploded!

watch out its some kind of global PSP doomsday

Hellcat says:

Cosmic radiation, comming from a satelite Sony launched to kill all CFW PSPs :D

MenaceInc says:

hmm...surprised at some of the comments involving hardmodding and official firmware considering that there was hardly any details released about what happened, i.e. whether he was running cfw or whether it was a 3rd party battery.

i'd place my money on being an unofficial battery

SalvatruchaDeNY1 says:

LMAO XD i wonder if this will affect the warranty on his psp

MenaceInc says:

well the parents are contacting sony to find out whether there were many other cases like this so i'm guessing they'll be compensated for the injury and distress caused. pity if the kid was running custom firmware and Sony found out, they'd instantly blame the custom firmware thus blackening the idea of cfw.

it's bad enough that people when they go to find out about cfw, they're scared of bricking their PSPs which was caused by a load of media articles...i can see the same happening from this incident

frosty5689 says:

It's not cfw. why? The god dam kids got burn out legend in the umd tray.

Hanzo_f19 says:

ahh....But cfw can't explode batteries.

Oh man, I'm gonna to creat "Battery Flamer", it will be teh best homebrew ever xD

d1ddy says:

you killed it.

XJ.08 says:

actully sony such a bad compny whant to kill people ??

any way thanks for the topic.

T.C.

Hellcat says:

I'd guess the NAND chip didn't survive that....

MenaceInc says:

actually where abouts on the PCB is the NAND chip? it could survived the accident...
