RAGE PC Getting Second Patch, Will Alleviate Blurry Textures, Add Texture Detail Options

by Mike Bendel on October 14, 2011 @ 11:59 am

The launch of RAGE on PC was plagued by driver issues, as well as widespread complaints over the lack of fine-tuning graphical options. Developer id Software released a patch earlier this week, giving users control over the texture cache and VSync options. It’s a start, but what’s next?

According to id Software technical director John Carmack on Twitter, a second patch for RAGE is coming that will add bicubic-upsample rendering routines to “alleviate the blurry textures.” Additionally, a much-welcomed option for controlling the level of texture detail will be included.

We have a bicubic-upsample+detail texture option for the next PC patch that will help alleviate the blurry textures in Rage.

PC gamers might be upset over state RAGE was released in — and understandably so, but there’s no question that id is committed to post-launch support. Look forward for our review of the PC version next week.

Guess it's a good thing that I've held off for a bit? Honestly... there's few games these days where you purchase a product that's actually ready to play, without hitches, out of the box.
