Final Fantasy XIV suffered from a rocky launch, prompting Square Enix to make drastic changes, including a restructuring of the entire development team. Almost a year later, and it seems things are back on track. Square Enix announced today that the free trial period will come to close between late November and early December, in light of several improvements that have been made over the past several months.

Moreover, a version 2.0 update is due out between September and October of next year, which promises to bring massive changes. Around the same time, a beta for the PS3 version will begin. A PDF released earlier today by Square Enix outlined these five main points:

1. A complete redesign of current repetitive maps
2. The implementation of a new graphics engine
3. A new server system designed for increased speed and performance
4. A fully renewed user interface
5. The expansion of in-game community content

The update will be backed by ample marketing support, with Square Enix teasing a “new promotional trailer” in time for E3 2012.
