PSP Custom Firmware 3.90 M33

by Mike Bendel on January 31, 2008 @ 2:25 pm

Talk about quick! Homebrew developer Dark_AleX has now released PSP custom firmware 3.90 M33. The firmware update can be applied either directly via Network Update if you’re already on 3.80 M33, or by following the manual instructions below.

Instructions

- Copy the UPDATE folder into /PSP/GAME/
- Get the 3.90 sony update from somewhere, and put it in same folder, with name “390.PBP”.
Alternatively, you can let the installer to download for you via wifi.
- Run it, the update will be done by Sony updater. At the end when you are asked to reboot the
PSP pressing X or O, do it.

Changes:

- 3.80 -> 3.90
- March33 NO UMD: fixed (yet another) bug related with exiting with home. (infinite semaphore wait)

Changes in updater:

- The degeneration check and correction of IDS keys happens too in 3.71 now.
- Added code to download 3.90 PBP from net via wifi.
Note that his code is not yet 100% stable, it may crash when selecting AP. In that case,
reinit the installer.
- L+triangle has been restored as method to bypass battery.
If you already have 390.PBP keep those buttons pressed until you see “Veryfing 390.PBP”.
If the 390.PBP is being downloaded bia wifi, press those buttons at the end of download until
you see the previous sentence.

In case you’re wondering, the previously released 3.80 M33 popsloader does work with 3.90 M33. However you cannot run the 3.80 pops with it.

AWSOME,

Any news on `1.5 Kernal patch' ???

x3sphere says:

Yes, it is available now:

http://exophase.com/psp/15-kernel-add-on-for-390-m33-3185.htm

porchemasi says:

ahahah awsome, exophase rocks for psp news :))

nevster says:

so if im updating via wifi do i need to put the update folder into psp/game?

x3sphere says:

No, you can update directly through Network Update. When you launch the installer, it will ask if you want to download the 390.PBP or not.

pspknightx says:

DA sure is fast

Chilly Willy says:

One issue on this new version - don't rename GAME380 to GAME390, D_A forgot to rename the directory in the firmware patch, so it's still looking for homebrew in GAME380.

frosty5689 says:

Does IRSHELL work for 3.90 m33?

pspknightx says:

IRSHELL 3.90 doesnt work with 3.90m33, same with IRSHELL 3.81.

Too bad...

Sardu says:

Full version update via wifi? WOah, I'm in CFW heaven!

Thanks DAX

frosty5689 says:

I'm not going to update my fw(since AhMan droped IRSHELL and he's not releasing the source code)

mattsgreat5 says:

can you install it on a psp slim using OF 3.80? please help!!!

Acerthief says:

You'll need to use the Universal Unbricker/Installer. Check it out in the FAQ Section.

Wow, 3.90 just out, and DAX already converted. Way to go!

mattsgreat5 says:

does it work on psp slim running OF 3.80?

Acerthief says:

It's "Universal", of course. Or else I wouldn't tell you to use it now, would I?

But you'll need a custom firmware PSP to install and convert the things for you.

mattsgreat5 says:

and if it does, can someone give me easier instructions(if possible) on how to get it to work

x3sphere says:

The guide is available here:

http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=3780

Like Acer said, you will need someone else with a PSP running custom firmware to convert the battery and install the memory stick files for you. There's no way to get on custom firmware with just a PSP running 3.80.

Doubleagent74 says:

I'm not sure what you mean by "3.80 pops." Are you talking about saved games created under 3.80 or something else?

Hanzo_f19 says:

He means you cannot run 3.80 firmware pops (psx emulator) on this firmware, BUT you can run the other firmwares.

Doubleagent74 says:

:confused1:

Let me put this another way: right now, I'm running 3.80 M33-5. If I upgrade to 3.90 M33, will I be able to run PS1 games without doing anything extra?

x3sphere says:

Yes, you can. 3.90 M33 includes the 3.90 pops built-in. With each firmware update, Sony usually updates the emulator.

Doubleagent74 says:

Thanks, that's what I needed to know. Updating now...

komplexq says:

What happens if I have a custom XMB (a 3.80m33 version)... it wouldn't work anymore correct?

x3sphere says:

Maybe, because 3.90 is similar to 3.80. You'll just have to try it. Remember to backup theme files before replacing anything though.

Jack says:

since 3.8~3.9

Iso files can not use Chinese names: Start time will be a blank screen freeze.

RJC4LIFE says:

Well,390 fixed Valkyrie Profile Lenneth for me.380 had broken it..the game would crash when accessing certain menu screens but now all it does it turn off the audio until you enter a stage, battle or cutscene.I can live with that..

frosty5689 says:

There's alot of bugs w/ 3.90 M33 so i suggest staying in 3.80 M33-5 unless you really want skype...

benben021 says:

where do i get the sony psp update?

x3sphere says:

The official firmware update EBOOTs are available here:

http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=2886

icedman204 says:

Does 3.90M33 and up (if any in the future) still support the Multidisc Eboots, that are converted using popsloader_md

x3sphere says:

Yes it does.

rassul says:

i have version 3.90 but cant put no games on my psp even with that kernal program

Acerthief says:

You need custom firmware,

official firmwares can't use those.

claudiu says:

hi .ia have fat psp with 3.90 Can i have 3.90 m33 what can i do ? thx

Acerthief says:

You'll need to use an Universal Unbricker in order to go from 3.90 to 3.80M33-5, then 3.90M33.

You can check out the guide to make an Universal Unbricker. Note though you still need a custom firmware PSP to make them.

bigjim says:

is there anyway i can get custom firmware without a custom psp. i have a 3.90 and would like to get homebrew gear without probs

joeey2k says:

those this work if you have 3.80 firm ware that came with the psp Y/N please help me out with some inf. thank you

x3sphere says:

No it does not. You need to be running at 3.52 M33-3 or above to install 3.90 M33.

joeey2k says:

do i run the psp network up date after i combine the files

supersear98 says:

this program is awsome

mcchal says:

OK real noob so shout away.

The GF has just brought a PSP and I am looking at how to play ISO. It is a slim and lite, with 3.90 firmware. I ahve done a bit of reading and loads of peops are talking about unbricking etc etc. Can some tell me what I need to get this new slim PSP from 3.90 to 3.90-m33 so i can play ISO games.

Many thanks

mcchal

Acerthief says:

Your only way now is to use the Universal Unbricker (DCv4). Note that you'll need a PSP with custom firmware to install the set.

Or you can Check out this thread HERE (noobz.eu), which links you to people around the globe that has the service to help you. :D

nathanmoon says:

x3sphere, is there any news of a possible loading of the idstorage for the MS???

Benzo says:

NEED HELP. I have a fatty with 3.90 M33 and ive been trying to play Final Fantasy 7. Some files I have downloaded freeze up at the fight scene, some you can just click new game and it stays dark with no sound. What am I doing wrong. Thanks for any help.

slimdude says:

• I have a 3.71 firmware and want to update to 3.90 will it work. O, yes let me not leave out that I have the slim psp.

x3sphere says:

Be more specific - if you are on 3.71 M33 then yes you can update straight to 3.90 M33. If you are on 3.71 official then someone who has a Pandora battery will need to downgrade your PSP for you.

themamba247 says:

Hi i my psp is version 3.90 m33 but i dont know how to play isos and i tried fastloader but it says corrupt data can someone help me please

x3sphere says:

3.90 M33 natively supports ISO files, so I'm not sure why you're trying to use Fastloader. Put the files in X:/ISO, where X is your memory stick drive.

jemarcuscrew says:

i don't understand Get the 3.90 sony update from somewhere, and put it in same folder, with name "390.PBP".

someone help please

x3sphere says:

Follow this guide then:

Jupitereclipse says:

I need help. This download isn't working at all. Should I download this from my psp's web browser or my computers web browser? it dosent work from my computers web browser because it says its an RAR file and wont let me save it, only open it. Can someone help plz?!?!?!?!?

FrozenIpaq says:

Well then, open it.. If you're talking about the 3.90 files, then if you open the .rar file (it saves it to your temp internet folder on your PC), you should then be able to highlight the folders and hit Ctrl+C then hit Ctrl+V on your desktop (or use the Extract to wizard). Just follow the instructions in that thread and in the readme that comes with the download

Jupitereclipse says:

see but wen i download, all i get is the RAR file and not the readme with it.

I got pwnt on that part

Jupitereclipse says:

Yea but all i get is the RAR file not the readme.

:C

x3sphere says:

RAR is a like a ZIP file. Use WinRAR or 7-zip to extract it.

Jupitereclipse says:

Hokay. i have the CFW on my psp but im at 3.90 OFW so i cant execute the operation because it says i dont need to update. Now I know i need a pandora battery/magic memory stick to get to 1.50 Firmware to get that 3.90CFW update but to use the pandora battery i need CFW to use it!!! What do i do????

x3sphere says:

No, you need CFW to convert your battery to Pandora. You can use a Pandora battery on OFW.

I recommend either asking someone you know with CFW to convert your battery or buy a pre-converted Pandora battery. Datel's TOOL batteries work. As for the magic memory stick files, they are illegal to share but can be found by searching around online.

Jupitereclipse says:

where online???

chris says:

how do i download 3.90m33

x3sphere says:

I can't help you there. Like I said - they are illegal to share. If you know someone with CFW on their PSP you can get the magic memory stick files from them as well.

@chris: Download link is in the article...

Jupitereclipse says:

Do i need CFW to run pandora because i have it downloaded to my psp but it says it cant strat the game when i try to initate it

Do i need CFW for it???

x3sphere says:

Yes... I just told you that in my previous post.

Jupitereclipse says:

Does anyone have a battery pandorizer link because i would rather not hardmod my battery.

x3sphere says:

You can purchase the Datel TOOL battery, it's a pre-converted Pandora battery:

http://www.consoleshop.com/product.php?productid=17108

Might be available cheaper elsewhere... just the first link I found in Google.

Wildlife78 says:

im using a 3.52 m33-4 fat psp. When i tried to update my psp, the program starts this way.

[Unpacking... Done

Please wait]

I waited until the cow came home and the updater still don't update. What am i doing wrong?

EDIT:

Hi,

I have a fat psp with 1.5 on it and im running Devhook i am ver unfimiliar with the custom firmware stuff and i ahve a few questions i was hoping someone could help me out with

1. will i stil be able to run all the ninendo emulators?

2. does the custom firmware operate similar to devhook?

3. can some one please help me with what i need to do to get my psp up to 3.8 so i can install the custom 3.90

Acerthief says:

1. Any custom firmware can run emulators. :D

2.Yup, and even better, you don't have to spend so much time on turning on devhook!

3.To get to 3.90M33, you need to upgrade to 3.52M33 first, apply the 3.52M33-4 Patch, then you may install 3.90M33, with the 3.90M33-2 Patch and the 1.5 Kernel Add-on. Remember to put the 150.PBP at the root of the memory stick when you apply the 1.5 kernel.

pitman says:

Hey, I have researched a fair bit about all this hacking stuff for psp, and I have the following problem:

I have a psp slim, pandora battery, and magic memory stick. I have just updated to CFW 3.8 M33-5, but I cannot load anything??? No matter what I put inside the X:/PSP/GAME/ folder, nothing appears?

I want to upgrade to 3.9 M33, and I have the files required, but it doesn't recognise them.

I tried to put them in the recovery folder, and load the eboot through recovery mode, but it comes up "Error ......" (forget what numbers).

I want to be able to hack my psp completely, but even when i convert back to 3.8, 3.8 M33-5, nothing is recognised???

ANY help would be appreciated.

qurdina says:

Do you have to downgrade the 390 to 3.71 to unbrick?

sliver says:

Hi Dark-AleX,

Please help me... After I've upgraded my PSP to Version 3.90 via PSP WiFi, my PSP no longer can play those ISO/CSO games from the MagicStick. I saw from other threads that we'll be able to see a 'Recovery Menu' when we boot PSP by pressing R button but mine doesn't show anything... :( How do I solve this problem? Please advise me and thanks much!

sliver

x3sphere says:

Press select while in the XMB and try changing the UMD ISO Mode to Sony NP9660. This usually fixes any game loading problems.

farih says:

bro x3sphere,

RJC4LIFE says:

As long as you have a Pandora battery and a magic memory stick set up for downgrading to 390M33-3 via DC5 then yes..

snowman22 says:

NVM, problem solved. Sorry for the post!

silverwootz says:

I have a fat PSP I think and I am using official firmware 3.80 I want to get 3.90 custom firmware on it but it always says game could not be run

x3sphere says:

You need a Pandora battery and magic memory stick. More information on this can be found here: http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=6832

silverwootz says:

don't you need a Memory stick pro duo for a magic memory stick?

x3sphere says:

@silverwootz: Yes, of course.

silverwootz says:

I don't got one, nor can afford one

silverwootz says:

will the custom 4.01 m33 work from official 3.90?

x3sphere says:

No, unfortunately not. As I said above, you need a Pandora battery and magic memory stick. There's no way around that. Perhaps you know someone that has a Memory Stick Pro Duo? You only need to use the battery and magic memory stick once to install custom firmware.

silverwootz says:

umm well I don't think I know anyone else with a PSP( at least not someone who would let me use it anyway)

silverwootz says:

hey it says I need custom firmware to make Pandora

silverwootz says:

can i run the 3.80 custom updater while in 3.80 official?

silverwootz says:

my brother still has 3.71 official can I use that to

help?

silverwootz says:

What is XMB?

silverwootz says:

x3sphere said

"Press select while in the XMB and try changing the UMD ISO Mode to Sony NP9660. This usually fixes any game loading problems."

where are you talking about?

pspknightx says:

Re: Silverwootz

If your brother is using Official Firmware 3.71, he also cannot help you to make pandora.

XMB = XrossMediaBar

The place where you select Game, Music, Video and etc.

WHen you are having CFW, you can press "select" and a vsh menu will come out but since you are using OFW, so there's no vsh available for you.

Rokketz says:

i need an advice to you all expert,my psp(slim)has 3.71 m33-2 CFW,and i want to update it on 3.90 m33 what shall i do first?and one more thing id like to install the 1.5 kernel ad on but how? - thanks in advance,,

I have a strange feeling that I'm about to piss people off here by asking the same thing that has been asked over and over on these comments, but I've been trying the entire day to sort out my old PSP with some custom firmware. If anyone can make this clear to me I'd greatly appreciate it.

I'm using a PSP 1000 with firmware 3.80, I tried to update with 3.80 m-33, but it obviously said that I already have 3.80 and there is no need to update. So, I downloaded 3.90, renamed it 390.PBP and placed it in the UPDATE folder along with 3.90 m-33. Then I went to the folder on my PSP and tried to run the update and it said "the game could not be started."

Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to buy a "Pandora battery" or something? If you know what I'm doing wrong I'd greatly appreciate some help, thanks.

cmann5675 says:

it says that the data is corupt when i click on it in the saved data folder under games o the psp it does this with all my updates and stuff iput under there

A.0.A says:

there are some changes in the firmware that it cause it to became corrupt, but if you use recovery flasher or pandora you can make it go back to the firmware you've been using in that savedata!!.
