GameStop Adds Fuel To Recent PS3 Rumors

We first received word of the discontinuation of the 80 GB PlayStation 3 model when an internal Best Buy memo leaked, notifying employees that the SKU would be going closeout retail-wide.

Unsurprisingly, Sony has kept mum on the subject — giving the old line “we do not comment on rumors and speculation.” Despite this denial, IGN now reports that multiple sources within retail chain GameStop have also confirmed that the 80GB PS3 is on its way out.

That’s not all. The aforementioned sources also confirm a report from Arstechnica, which claimed that Sony is replacing the 80GB PS3 with an upgraded bundle packager — one that will include a bigger hard drive (120GB or more) and a Dual Shock 3 controller.

Don’t know about you, but I’m getting a feeling of deja vu here.
