Star Wars: The Old Republic Could Slip Into 2012

BioWare is taking its sweet time on Star Wars: The Old Republic. While the ambitious MMO is targeted for a late holiday 2011 release, EA isn’t discounting the possibility that it may slip. Company CFO Eric Brown told investors during a recent conference call that feedback from the ongoing beta test will be particularly crucial in determining if the title is fit for release.

“We did hold out a slight possibility that it could slip to our March quarter. And the factors that would cause a slip is, for example, us not being completely satisfied with the scalability testing, and wanting to tune it for several extra weeks,” said Brown.

Understandably, the comment caused a bit of fervor over at the official SWTOR forums. BioWare community manager Stephen Reid reassured fans that the statement was made simply to warn investors that while the title could see a delay, it’s only a possibility at this point. In other words, don’t read into it too much.  We’ll see.

Thanks, MCV.
