Nico Nico Video API To Allow Broadcasting Gameplay Sessions from Vita

According to a Nikkei report, Niwango, the outfit behind Japanese video sharing site Nico Nico is working on software that will allow developers to incorporate live broadcast functionality into PS Vita titles.

Currently, the underlying Nico Nico API can broadcast a player’s face using the front-facing camera. Next year, the company plans on updating the API to transmit gameplay footage. The feature will operate from a game level, rather than system level. This means developers will have to interface with Niwango’s API.

While we won’t see any games outside of Japan leverage Niwango’s API, obviously, this offers yet another glimpse into the possibilities offered by Vita. Perhaps Sony will come up with a solution of its own in future firmware updates.

Thanks, Andriasang.
