Toshiba Secures 3 Million Dollar Super Bowl HD-DVD Ad

First Warner announced their exclusivity to Blu-ray. Then sales of the format soared. Now a UK retail chain has completely dropped the HD-DVD format in favor of Blu-ray. However you look at it, things aren’t looking up for the HD-DVD camp.

How can HD-DVD pull through at this point? Or, at least, spark interest in a format that many are already calling dead? Toshiba is banking on a 30-second HD-DVD advertisement that will air during next week’s Super Bowl. Industry insiders report that the advert will cost Toshiba nearly $3 million dollars.

Defeat is imminent, can't blame them for trying. But that's alot of money to waste...

Considering the Fact Toshiba is the only company to make HD DVD players. Everyone knows HD is going the way of Beta (Remeber when Sony Hogged and was the only device to use Beta Tapes, and look what happened there). Blu-Ray has more Manufacturers' making the players from Sony to Samsung (see history repeating themselves). Also the only Company to make a Dual HD/BR player was LG which SUCKED as heck and NEVER did play any of the formats properly.

So yeah Toshiba makes alot of money to fork in a Superbowl AD, BUT it really doesn't help much.
