Blizzard Pulls The Plug On StarLite DS Homebrew Project

by Mike Bendel on January 24, 2008 @ 10:05 am

With no signs of StarCraft coming to the Nintendo DS, two French developers decided to take it upon themselves and recreate the popular RTS title from the ground up. Dubbed StarLite DS, the project was coming along rather nicely, in fact version 0.03 was recently released with multiplayer support.

Unfortunately, the developers have confirmed that Blizzard had sent them a cease and desist order, forcing the crew to abandon the project.

For legal reasons, we must abandon this project.

It’s shame… but on the other hand it was in Blizzard’s full rights to shut down the project since they used assets from the original game.
