Take-Two: College Hoops 2K9 Axed

by Mike Bendel on January 14, 2008 @ 8:33 pm

Looks like college basketball fans will only have one title to choose from this year. That title, being the next installment in EA’s March Madness franchise.

In a statement released today, Take-Two confirmed that license negotiations with the Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC) broke down. As a result, the 2009 edition in the company’s top-rated College Hoops franchise has been canceled.

2K Sports has decided not to continue negotiations with the CLC for the license for its top-rated College Hoops franchise, which would have been released next in November 2008. We are committed to providing fans with high-quality, critically-acclaimed sports games, but given our disciplined approach to the business, we do not believe the current discussions would result in an acceptable outcome.

Has EA inked an exclusive deal with the CLC as they did with the NFL franchise back in 2004? It sure looks that way. As soon as we hear more, we’ll let you know.
