Update: PSP Custom Firmware 3.71 M33-4 Released, Popsloader Bug Fix

by Mike Bendel on December 12, 2007 @ 7:12 pm

Homebrew developer Dark_AleX has released an update to custom firmware 3.71 M33. Update 3.71 M33-4 adds full support for multi-disc PSOne games and includes various bug fixes concerning popsloader. The full changelog can be found below.

– Bugfix: Multidisc psx games bought in the psn store would not work due to the format being different
and M33 treating them as decrypted games.

- Added support for decrypted multidisc psx games created with popstation_md (supplied with this release).

Included in the package is a new version of popsloader.

Changelog in popsloader:

- Bugfix: Games without compression had sound issues when using 3.72 pops. Fixed.
- Added support for multidisc psx games created with popstation_md. Note: multi disc games will
only work in 3.71 and 3.72 pops. Previous pops will exit to the xmb with generic error 0×80000004
when attempting to run multidisc games.

The updater can be run on any previous edition of 3.71 M33. To install, simply copy the UPDATE folder included in the archive over to PSP/GAME and then launch the update from the Game menu.

Update: Dark_AleX has released a small update to the new popsloader, fixing a minor bug:

When selecting a firmware for a multidisc game, the setting was being remembered for any other multidisc game too.

Very good work, guys ;)

Acerthief says:

Thanks Math for the news.

and always, ALL HAIL DAX!

Hanzo_f19 says:

hmm...Can anyone help me? I have all the files I need and this happens:

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff148/fearevil19/ScreenHunter_05Dec131122.gif

I have tried compressed and uncompressed (the BASE.PBP).What Am I doing wrong?

PS:It is Hot Shots Golf 1.(BASE.PBP)

x3sphere says:

Is the BASE.PBP in the correct folder? It should be in the same folder as popstation_md.exe

shadowthor says:

Is this update cumulative as well or do i need to have 3.71m33-3 installed?

Hanzo_f19 says:

yep

Screenshot

x3sphere says:

It is cumulative.

fearevil19, I think the problem is this stuff you're typing before popstation_md (highlighted in bold)

C:\popstation_md\popstation_md.exe

It should start off with just popstation_md.exe

Hanzo_f19 says:

Thanks, that problem is gone now. Another problem:

Problem ScreenShot

Look at the game code from disc1

and disc 2

God hates me :p

x3sphere says:

Yea the GameID is too long. It's SCUS94163 for Disc 1.

They have a complete listing of serial codes here:

http://sonyindex.com/Pages/PSone_US_Name.htm

Very useful.

Hanzo_f19 says:

Oh, man, crap. My bad (very ashamed):blushing:

You're right and the base.pbp problem is back. Oh...man...:blushing:

x3sphere says:

Hmm well in the screen you just posted, it started off with

C:\popstation_md.exe

You should only type popstation_md.exe in the beginning, or else it messes up.

Hanzo_f19 says:

But if i type just "popstation_md.exe" and not "c: popsation_md.exe" the cmd will not recognize it

x3sphere says:

That's because you are in the wrong folder.

You need to navigate to the folder popstation_md is in.

Try doing this... first copy the popstation_md folder to C:\

Then boot up command prompt and type "cd C:\" without the quotes. Now type cd popstation_md.

In your DOS window it should now say C:\popstation_md\> to the left

So just type popstation_md.exe and the rest of the command. Should work.

Hanzo_f19 says:

Now it doesn't regnonize this:

http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff148/fearevil19/ScreenHunter_03Dec132114.gif?t=1197580524

I should kill myself, shouldn't I?

Man, I feel like a big noob : p

PS:Ignore the first error.

PS 2:If you need me to translate anything, just ask.

x3sphere says:

lol :p I see the problem. In the pic you typed popstation_md.exe wrong.

Hanzo_f19 says:

I've beated my noobish questions record...damn!

Everything working, Thanks

**Went to dig a hole and bury myself**:blushing:

chemist says:

Im going to out-noob you.

What were you doing?

http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=2047

Also if your using ^that guide, is that as compressed as a PSX game gets or is there something else you can use to compress it moar?

x3sphere says:

He was merging both discs, it's one of the new features in the updated popstation.

And, nope, that is the best compression you can get on PSone games.

Fako says:

moar.. lol.

chemist says:

Is the program used to combine 2 disks into 1 eboot combined in the firmware 3.71 M33 update or is it separate?

I cant wait till they release those cards in teh US.

x3sphere says:

It's in the update archive. Look in the popstation_md folder.

nyzack says:

is it true that you can put 3.71 m33 on your psp with the officail 3.71 on your psp

Acerthief says:

Sure, but it's more complicated than it's said.

You'll Need the "Pandora Battery" (Also know as the "Universal unbricker/installer") to do the job. Check it out in the FAQ section

But to make one, you'll still need a PSP with custom firmware (e.g. 3.71M33) to make one.

jessica says:

grind session still does not work, unfortunately, but I found out how to find the files. if you download an eboot for a firmware, say 3.40 or 3.72, you can place it onto the main folder (ms0; NOT the update folder). then, you can decrypt using the psardumper program using the square button. When you decrypt a firmware, you can find the files under the 'f0' folder in the main folder (ms0), change the name to include the numbered firmware (popsman340.prx for example) and place them in the ms0:/seplugins/popsloader folder.

Two questions, please:

1) Do you have to find out what firmware allows each game to be able to play them? For example, if firmware update 3.40 allowed the game 'Grind Session', is that the only one I can use?

2) ok the first one was two questions (lol), but, Can I use the same prx's from a higher firmware in each category (3.00-3.03, 3.10-3.30, and 3.40-3.72), say renaming 3.30's pops.prx to pops310, pops311, pops330, the ones below it, or should I download and decrypt each firmware?

Thanks for any help. I have a few PSX games I'd like to play, but they never work for me.

Cheezeball99 says:

First off, some basic questions, then I'll get to yours- How are you converting your PSX games? Are you using the guide HERE? Also, which firmware are you running?

Okay, now for your questions-

1) Not necessarily; Although this is true with some games. It just really, REALLY depends on the game- There are some games that work with every single version, perfectly. There are some games that only work with some versions, then there are games that don't work at all.

2) The Popsloader in 3.71M33-4 (assuming you ARE using that firmware) basically does what you are saying without all of that hassle- it lets you pick which one you want to use, and you can have all versions available at once. This of course requires you to download and decrypt each firmware and use all of the pops .prx files, and upon launch of the PSX game it asks which version of Pops you want to use. No need to rename 'n' such.

Oh, and one final note- Don't advertise. It's severely against forum rules.

HOW CAN I UPDATE MY PSP FROM 5.03 TO 3.71?

50geo50 says:

PLZ TELL ME MY PSP IS USELESS,HOW CAN I UPDATE MY PSP FROM 5.03 TO 3.71?,I CANT FIND A WAY TO DO IT!

jx233 says:

If its a PSP-3000/PSP Brite on 5.03, you are hopeless.

If its a PSP-2000/ PSP Slim on 5.03, you can downgrade using Pandora's Battery method. (Unless its the TA-088 V3 motherboard)

If its a PSP-1000/Phat on 5.03, you can downgrade also with Pandora Battery method.

If you do not have a Pandora Battery and people you know that have PSPs do not have one, you are absolutly hopeless.
