Update: Multi-disc Popsloader Coming Soon

by Mike Bendel on December 11, 2007 @ 5:20 pm

PSP homebrew developer Mathieulh tipped us off today to let us know that a new Popsloader binary with full support for building multi-disc PSone EBOOTs is due for release soon.

Essentially, this means that when converting multi-disc PSone games for use with custom firmware on the PSP, users will be able to store and compress all the data into one EBOOT file, rather than building a separate EBOOT file for each disc.

Update: Mathieulh has taken photos of the multi-disc pops in action. Shown above is the emulator running Metal Gear Solid with multi-disc support. Additional photos are available at LAN.ST.

To be honest, its great to see Mathieulh and DAX working on the PSP but i thought 1 of the GREATEST feature if POPS was the ability to split discs into 1 file per disc ... i mean its a treat to fit a full psx game on a 1gb card and then swap for disk 2 :S

I mean I wouldnt was 2.1 gb 3 disk FF7 on my PSP ... especially if they will be needed like 1 week apart :p Waste of space imagine ... and that goes for most multi disc games :)

It would be alot kooler for them to start working on a M33 XMB, basically a bootable homebrew app, booleaned in the Recovery. This way they can add "Empy" icons with homebrew Shortcuts that are 100% customizable, and can encorprate like a very kool rotation of icons :) Basically an XMB replacement through HOMEBREW APP rather than XMB editing :))

my 2 cents ;)

I think it's good news, all my mem sticks are 4GB's anyway. But how would we make one eboot? I use PsGui and Icetea and I'm not aware of any one eboot feature in them.

If anything was added to CFW I'd like it to be more music and video formats in the XMB,instead of having to use homebrew for it.Maybe a power off option in the vsh menu.

That's my two cents as well..I'm just glad to see that CFW is still being evolved..and grateful to those who provide...

The release will include an updated version of popstation as well (command line utility D_A made for converting PSone games). All of the GUIs use popstation, so they will need to be updated.

Wonderfull! Great news! Thanks, Math & Alex! I hope we can just join the number of eboots we want. Ex: Final Fantasy VII has 3 discs=more than 2 GBs

2/3 discs= around 1.4 GBs (i think)

Thanks for everything, Math & Alex :D

my copies of all 3 ff7 discs only take up 1.47GB...quite a bit of the files would be the same over the 3 discs so the ability to merge them would free up quite a bit of space i think....maybe get it down to a gig.

Hanzo_f19 says:

My bad (again)

I just have the first disc and it is 714 MBs so I assumed that the other ones had 700 MBs to.

porchemasi says:

Yeah i have a 4gb aswell, im just saying for others and myself.... I find it pointless to combine disks if it still takes u weeks to get to the second .... and u can just name it the same as ur 1st and it will work lol and use same region code :P

Tenshigami says:

I'm guessing he didn't use a screenshot plugin for compatibility reasons? I ruined my eyes trying to make out the "Switch Disc."

RJC4LIFE says:

He could've taken the shot with IRshell instead of a blurry camera...

Mathieulh says:

more pics available here : http://pics.lan.st/multidisc/ (done using a screenshot plugin, check the screenshotxxx.jpg files)

icedman204 says:

does this loader still work on 3.80M33 and up?

x3sphere says:

It's already built-in on 3.80 M33 and 3.90 M33.
