Payton: Metal Gear Solid 4 Needs To Sell 1 Million On Day 1

by Mike Bendel on November 29, 2007 @ 2:33 pm

Is Metal Gear Solid 4 the last “great” exclusive? Taking the rising costs of game development into account, possibly.

The game’s assistant producer Ryan Payton says that the game will need to sell through at least one million units on day one in order to make up for high production costs. Given the PS3′s less than stellar sales when compared to other platforms that may be a tough number to reach. Not to mention only two PS3 games have reached the one million sales point in the US and both were launch titles.

Worldwide, I can definitely see MGS 4 reaching the one million number fast. But still, day one? Expecting a million sales on day one is pushing it.

MenaceInc says:

hmm.....don't think it would do it that fast....maybe a week or it definately would if it was a multi-console release but a million on day one would be near impossible.lol

canadajames says:

It all depends on when they release it, the price, and word of mouth or advertising. It looks cool and all but unless I have some major cash stored away its not gonna be a day oner.
