Aonuma Wants To Remake A Link To The Past In 3D

Eiji Aonuma, the man currently at the helm of the Zelda series, revealed during a recent interview with Official Nintendo Magazine’s UK division that he is “very interested” in what it would be like if his team remade A Link to the Past in 3D.

Ocarina of Time was the first title I worked on, and I was continuously tackling challenges every day during its development, so I think this is the title I feel I impacted the most. I believe that experience made me what I am now. I always think about what we couldn’t do and what didn’t work well in the previous game when we start a new title, but there’s no game that I would want to actually change as such. I have to say though, the first Zelda game that I played and felt potential in was Link to the Past. I’m actually very interested in what it would be like if we remade that title as a 3D game.

Further to this, Aonuma said that the next Zelda title is still in the planning stages. He is unsure on what kind of visual approach the team will take, whether it be cel-shaded, a realistic look, or something completely different. In the end, it all depends on what will work best with the story and gameplay, according to Aonuma.

If that guy remakes and ruins my Link to the Past I will find him and I will CUT HIM. LttP = Best Zelda game, ever. There, I said it, what of it?

Yeah I hope he doesn't remake LttP, it's basically perfect.

What I would like to see remade is Link's Awakening. It was and still is the best handheld Zelda to me, mainly because of its awesome dungeon level designs. Since the game was made for the original Game Boy, it looks quite dated nowadays, so I'd love to see it remade in 3D, or even with upgraded 2D graphics on the DS.

Cheezeball99 says:

I agree, I think Link's Awakening would be a good candidate for a graphical update/DS port, although it would be a shame for it to be turned 3D, IMO. I always got stuck in that game on what I believe was the... 6th dungeon, maybe? The one that had the two-colored orbs, ya know, that are usually pink and blue, but instead gray and darker gray XD and you hit them to make certain panels raise and lower. Heh, I dunno why, but that dungeon would NOT let me win, ever.
