Dark_AleX has released 3.71 M33-3, a crucial update for all 3.71 M33 custom firmware users. Included in the new update is an updated build of popsloader, which allows users to run all versions of pops (the PSP PSone emulator) for increased compatibility.

Additionally, the update features various changes and bug fixes, all of which are detailed in the changelog below:

Changes:

- Fixed a bug in access to flash by usb.

- HEN core: kernel PRX’s with syscall exports work again.

- PSP Slim: programmers can set the size of user memory to 52 MB by using a sfo flag.
Check sample in SDK for usage.

- March33 NO-UMD driver:
* Fixed a bug that could hang the psp when exiting with home.
* Fixed compatibility issue with Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles, and maybe more games.

- Vshmenu: it wasn’t displaying properly with psp slim TV-OUT due to the change of resolution.

This is awesome, especially the end of the readme..."Support for encrypted&packed files is planned for the future."

The future? Sounds like someone has plans for just that. Thanks to DA as always and to X3 for bringing us news such as this in such a speedy fashion..

Included with the release is a new version of popsloader:

Requeriments:

- 3.71 M33-3 or higher (until sony makes it not to work again :p).

It won't work in prior versions of 3.71 M33, because it needs a function from 3.71 M33-3.

Changes:

- Support for 3.71 and 3.72 pops has been added. Note that 3.71 however will not appear in the

list in 3.71 M33 as it is not necessary.

List of files needed for each version:

3.00-3.03: kd/popsman.prx, kd/meaudio.prx, kd/pops.prx, vsh/module/pafmini.prx

3.10-3.30: kd/popsman.prx, kd/pops.prx, vsh/module/pafmini.prx

3.40-3.72: kd/popsman.prx, kd/pops.prx, vsh/module/pafmini.prx, vsh/module/libpspvmc.prx

The files must be decrypted. (use square in psardumper). Support for encrypted&packed files is planned

for the future.

I have a question, what is popsloader, I never added the plugin before and was still able to play PS1 games. Is popsloader a better vesion of PS1 emulator or is it needed to play certain games.

and where can I find these files required to use it

3.40-3.72: kd/popsman.prx, kd/pops.prx, vsh/module/pafmini.prx, vsh/module/libpspvmc.prx

x3sphere says:

Popsloader allows you to run older versions of the PSone emulator (or newer, in the case of 3.72 pops).

To get those files you need to use PSARDumper:

http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=3508

Basically, to use PSARDumper, get any firmware update EBOOT, make sure it is named EBOOT.PBP and copy it over to your memory stick drive. Then launch PSARDumper from the game menu and press SQUARE to decrypt all. All files from the firmware will then be extracted to a folder called F0 on the memory stick.

So for example, if you wanted to install 3.72 pops, you'd copy over popsman.prx, pops.prx, pafmini.prx, and libpspvmc.prx. Then rename each file with a 372 prefix at the end (e.g. popsman372.prx)

RJC4LIFE says:

Sweet!! The revisions made to the M33 driver are very good, Castlevania and Silent Hill Origins load even faster, cool.

icedman204 says:

does this patch only support the Slim? as in we dont have 1.5 Kernal if we're using the PSP Phat. Judging from the change logs, it's mainly all PSP Slim Supported? or if the 1.5 Patch does work, can we still install it on this one or is it not valid, if it isn't really Valid, yeah few of these updates look promissing but alot of it seems to only gear towards PSP Slim users. So if It removed the 1.5 Kernal on PSP Phat's then i'll just stick to 3.71M33-2

x3sphere says:

No, if you already have the 1.5 kernel patch installed you can still install this update. Also, after updating the 1.5 kernel patch does not need to be re-installed.

Sure, some of the updates are geared towards Slim users, but it's also worthwhile for Phat users because of popsloader, and for the USB flash writing bug fix.

homn says:

My phat psp is 3.71 M33 version 2. Can I update to this 3.71 M33-3? If not what is the firmware version of my psp must be on?

x3sphere says:

Yes, it says in the post that it's for all 3.71 M33 users, that includes 3.71 M33-2.

homn says:

Yes, but in the readme there is a part that reads "3.71 M33-3 or higher (until sonye makes it not to work again :p). It won't work in prior versions of 3.71 M33, because it needs a function from 3.71 M33-3.". But okay I will go ahead with the update...

x3sphere says:

That's referring to popsloader... it's a plugin that allows you to run older PSone emulator versions. D_A has brought back support for it in 3.71 M33-3.

kewl

MenaceInc says:

such it's just an update,it wouldn't get rid of the 1.5 patch, would it?...

Acerthief says:

Ah HA caught you didn't read the posts before asking!

nah jkjk.

MenaceInc says:

oops....i'm tired...thats my excuse :P

Acerthief says:

unacceptably accepted. XD

NeedDream says:

does this patch fix the problem with connect psp to a ps3 version 2.0

Chilly Willy says:

No. You have to copy two prxs from 3.72 into 3.71 to connect to the PS3. I read a thread on this over at MaxConsole, but didn't pay too much attention since I don't have a PS3. I forget the names of the prxs, but you use PSARDumper to dump them from the 3.72 EBOOT, then copy them into your flash. It was confirmed working by two different people. You'll have to look into it a bit more yourself. The above is all I know about it.

frosty5689 says:

Well im preety sure D_A can't be botherd making 3.72 m33 so he'll probably wait for 3.80.

TimTiger says:

I doubt that he will make any new firmware. he said that he is finished for real with making custom firmware. it's not 100% that he wont, but still pretty high that he wont.

frosty5689 says:

Unless i wasn't reading his readme correctly he said something about the future...

Chilly Willy says:

To answer myself, the two things you need from 3.72 for connecting to the PS3 are premo_plugin.prx and premo_plugin.rco.

Friscoway says:

Ok let me understand, because im kind stupid LOL so, if i convert a ps1 game right now i just drop it to my game folder and thats it?? or I need to do many things? like how many things do i need to do to make a ps1 game work with m33-3 ???

I really don't understand about pops, i thoght you guys were talking about a lollypop.

frosty5689 says:

Anyways if you don't understand anything about it then just go dl a pre-coverted ps1 game.

x3sphere says:

Well, after converting any PSone game to an EBOOT, its as easy as making a folder inside of GAME and dropping the EBOOT in. Then launch the game from the Game menu.

Friscoway says:

yup but what converter should I use? as far I studed and read, some converters convert the eboots for an specific custom firmware versions.

I had one but I don't remember wich one because my computer crashed and i lost everything.

x3sphere says:

Use PSX2PSP. There's a guide detailing how to use it here:

http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=2047

Friscoway says:

thank you man i'll give it a try I apreciate it.

ashmeet says:

Where do we download 3.71M33-3 + Popsloader?

ashmeet says:

My fat PSP is firmware 3.71 how do I make it 3.71M33-3???

frosty5689 says:

you make it 3.71 m33-3 by cracking open the case and takingout the resistors.

Friscoway says:

frosty don be a like that, ashmeet don't listen to guys like him he's an ashole, you need pandora's battery look this post at the forums

[forums.exophase.com]

but, you need a homebrew ready psp, or more easy buy a pandora's ready battery set ;)

Friscoway says:

well look at the forums and try to search pandora's

Chilly Willy says:

Come on! Making fun of noobies who don't read the stickies is God-given right guaranteed by the Constitution!

Mudbone says:

Will this update help me get games like RE2 running on my psp.. or do the game id's still have to be changed when ripping?? and does anyone have a link for RE2 that will run on 3.71m33-2or3 if this update does not help my problem??

x3sphere says:

Well this update allows you to run 3.72 pops (a newer version of the PSone emulator). Details on setting it up can be found here...

http://forums.exophase.com/showpost.php?p=24739&postcount=5

I don't know if 3.72 pops fixes RE2 though. Check the RE2 thread that you posted in before, I replied to your post.

Mudbone says:

Thanks, i really didnt want to ask the same question twice.. but when i saw this thread i got excited and thought this might solve my problem. I appreciate the help!!

Im gonna try updating, then playing RE2 if that doesnt work i'll try changing the ID on the EBOOT like you suggested in the other post.

UPDATE: Got RE2 workin by converting the EBOOT that i had with the new game ID...thanks again!!

kryst abegnalie says:

Hi,

Can I use the new popsloader included in this released with an older firmware, eg. 3.52M33 or 3.40 OE?

x3sphere says:

no it is only compatible with 3.71 M33.

o2byzst says:

Ok, so I'm a little confused when it comes to this. Here's my current setup: I have one of the original PSPs (1.50 fw) that has been upgraded to the 3.10 OE-A fw. I want to upgrade to the most recent custom fw (3.71 M33-3) but I'm not quite sure which method to follow. I've read the tutorials on this site and more but I'm still a little sketchy.

There's two obvious choices, the 3.51 or 3.71 both the M33 fws. Here's the thing, I also have custom emulators that I run under the 1.50 to play old NES, SNES, Genesis, etc games. My main goal is to be able to play the Ps1 games.

Can someone out there help me with this?

Thanks.

Acerthief says:

If your main goal is playing PSX games, 3.52M33 would be enough. HERE's the guide to upgrade and updates. :D

o2byzst says:

Acerchief, thanks for the knowledge but where is the link to the guide?

o2byzst says:

Also, what is the difference between the two fw? I've heard/read that the 3.71 M33-3 is the absolute best. Is it that difficult to update or is 3.52 just the most stable?

Acerthief says:

For stable, go for 3.52M33, then update to 3.52M33-4

For feature, go for 3.71M33, then update to 3.71M33-3

Here's the link, whichi includes both upgrades and updates:

http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=1504

(the link on the previous post was hyperlinked to the word "HERE" ;) )

Wannabe Hacker says:

Can you install 3.60m33 if you don't already custom firmware? Can you use the pandora's memory stick for installing other firmware after you update to 3.60 m33? Do you have to delete the 3.60 update on the pandora's memory stick to install other firmware?

Please help!

Wannabe Hacker says:

Sorry I forgot to write this in my last comment. Can I install 3.60 m33 with a pandora's battery if I have regular 3.71 Sony firmware?
