SCEE R&D Presentation Sheds Light On PS3-Vita Connectivity, Save Sharing Between Platforms

While Sony has briefly touched on PS3-Vita connectivity in the past, slides from a recent Develop presentation headlined by SCEE R&D manager Phil Rogers further expand on the concept.

Sony says the toolset it is providing to developers will allow them to drive the Vita display direct from a PS3 game, “use the unique features of PS Vita as a control device for a PS3 game,” and “run software on both devices, using the network to sync game states.” Interestingly, the last approach relies entirely on the Vita’s wealth of processing power, offloading any busy work from the PS3.

Additionally, saves can be shared seamlessly across both platforms. According to Sony, taking advantage of cross-platform play will be relatively easy for developers to incorporate — there’s no need for “clever drivers” involved, data can be sent through standard UDP and TCP connection.

We’ve included a few of the more notable slides below.
