Microsoft Phasing Out Glossy Xbox 360 S Model

by Mike Bendel on August 15, 2011 @ 1:14 pm

The days of the glossy Xbox 360 S are numbered, soon to be replaced with non-reflective matte finished units. Xbox community head Major Nelson says the company is in the process of “actively transitioning” all of its slimmed down models to the new finish.

While 4GB-equipped 360s already sport this look, glossy 250GB units can still be found on store shelves. However, the new matte versions will arrive in store shelves over the coming weeks, so don’t delay if having that shiny allure is a must.

Going forward, Nelson says the company may still offer the glossy finish on special edition consoles, like the Gears 3 and Star Wars Kinect bundles.

Adiuvo says:

I like the look of the matte console anyways. No fingerprints and little dust trump the glossy look.

Craig Fairfax says:

I like glossy better than matte, but If I ever decide to get another 360 it would be the 4gb anyway, so it doesn't bother me.

MenaceInc says:

Wish the matte version had been available when I got mine, would have opted for it instead.
