Sony Acquires inFamous Dev Sucker Punch

by Mike Bendel on August 2, 2011 @ 12:05 pm

Sony has made a strategic move to acquire inFamous developer Sucker Punch, making the Bellevue, Washington-based studio an official member of the SCE family. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Sucker Punch Productions is one of the most highly acclaimed development studios in the industry and we have enjoyed a wonderful relationship with the company for over 12 years. We are delighted to officially welcome them to the SCE family,” said SCE WWS boss Shuhei Yoshida.

Apart from formally joining the ranks of Sony’s internal studios, not much will change at Sucker Punch, presumably. While the studio has remained independent up until now, since 2000 it worked only on PlayStation format titles.

Same here. It actually came as a surprise to me to hear that it took them this long to acquire them...

Sony doesn't seem to buy studios when they should. I'm surprised they never bought Insomniac.
