THQ Posts $38.4M Net Loss, Red Faction Series May Be In Jeopardy

Publisher THQ has posted a $38.4M net loss compared to $195.2 million in net sales for Q1 of fiscal 2012. THQ CEO Brian Farrell told investors that the company was disappointed in its Q1 performance, pointing to the ‘niche’ sales of Red Faction Armageddon and late release of UFC Personal Trainer.

While THQ forecasts a strong Q2 and Q3 with titles like Saints Row: The Third on the horizon, the future of Red Faction may be in jeopardy.

“We do not intend to carry forward with that franchise in any meaningful way,” said Farrell, on the performance of Red Faction Armageddon.

Ghey.

Those games didn't have an identity anyway.

I enjoyed Guerrilla, but Armageddon seems more like an afterthought. Heard it's very linear, complete departure from the open-ended gameplay Guerrilla offered. Half the fun in Red Faction came from the sheer freedom in approaching objectives. Not surprised it bombed.

Trigun says:

I'm sure by "niche" they mean it didn't sell a bazillion units and realistically sold a few hundred thousand.

I would've bought it at launch too if I had the money at the time.

Barely anybody liked Armageddon. It was shit. If developers made good games you're far less likely to struggle financially. Stop milking shit.
