Nintendo announced today that 3DS owners across US and Canada can now enjoy Netflix. With just a few screen taps, members with unlimited streaming plans can steam  TV episodes and movies to their handheld.

While the app is provided as a free download, those that wish to take advantage of the service must subscribe to Netflix streaming plans, which now start at $7.99 a month and up. Nintendo also revealed statistics on the usage of Netflix on Wii, stating more than 1.5 million users routinely take advantage of the service to watch content.

Nintendo says content hedging to the strengths of the 3DS is coming, noting that it will provide “access to an additional library of select movies that can be viewed in 3D.” No timeframe was given, other than “soon.”
