The fabled Final Fantasy franchise will make its splash on the 3DS first as a rhythm title, as this week’s issue of Jump magazine reveals Theatrhythm Final Fantasy.

At its core, this is a musical adventure that tasks players with tapping the screen in tandem with time-sensitive prompts.

As the screenshots above show, there will be backdrops that resemble side-view battle environments from previous Final Fantasy entries. Characters sport a ‘chibi’ style look, akin to FFIV on the DS.

This could go either way. We’ll reserve judgment until more details surface.
