Microsoft Merging Games for Windows Live Marketplace Into Xbox.com

by Mike Bendel on July 1, 2011 @ 3:52 pm

Microsoft will consolidate its entire Games for Windows Live Marketplace into Xbox.com, according to a blurb posted on the official site. No timeframe on the switch was given, other than “soon.”

“Games for Windows Marketplace will fully transition over to Xbox.com. Now you can get all of your gaming needs in one place. It’s convenient, it’s concentrated, and it’s a whole lot of great games,” reads the announcement.

Could this move mean bigger and better things for GFWL? Or is Microsoft merely moving dead weight around? Let’s hope for the former. The company went live with a promising revamp of the GFWL storefront earlier this year, though the buzz was fairly short-lived.

So much for them giving PC a focus.

At least they know they can't compete with Steam xD

It's about time. Full integration will help PC digital sales and get me more damned PC achievements, too. :)

I said that in 2008... Games for Windows Live was an aborted fetus.

It's because their "Games for windows live" failed and now they hope to give it a better image under their Xbox image.

My bet is that most people complaining or being negative about this never even bought a game through Games for Windows Live.

I have a few. Arkham Asylum is the biggest game I have from them. It never really bothered me but the forced integration with their save system was annoying. I'd prefer it if games used Steamworks for their DRM since Steam is relatively unobtrusive.

I played Gears of War and Fallout 3 on Games for Window live. Other than a separate achievement set, it didn't add anything.

It could have been great, but it wasn't even a tangible thing until they released the client. That to me was too little too late. Also, their catalog is piratically bare compared to, well, every other digital retailer. If you want to play Gears of War PC though, it's fine... It works :/
