Bethesda On Skyrim Add-Ons: Less, More Substantial DLC Is Likely

by Mike Bendel on June 29, 2011 @ 11:10 am

While DLC plans for Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim aren’t entirely set in stone yet, company boss Todd Howard says the firm plans on deviating from its approach with Fallout 3 – which was graced with smaller, frequent content packs. For Skyrim, the current plan is less, more substantial DLC.

Howard likened the scale to a “expansion pack feel.”

“The Fallout 3 pace that we did was very chaotic,” Howard told AusGamers. “We did a lot of them – we had two overlapping groups – and we don’t know what we’re going to make yet, but we’d like them to be closer to an expansion pack feel.”

He added, “We don’t have any specific plans yet, but they’ve been really successful and we like making them. So right now I can say that we’d like to do less DLC but bigger ones – you know, more substantial.”

Sounds gravy. Skyrim is out November 11 on PC, Xbox 360, PS3. Read our E3 coverage of it here.

I hope I can get into this game. I loved Fallout 3, but hated Oblivion. I'm hoping it was the jank that turned me off, and not the setting. This game looks dope.

Adiuvo says:

So Shivering Isles level? I'm good with that.

sounds good to me=-)

Robby says:

That's how I am. I just thought Elder Scrolls Oblivion was boring. Made it up to closing the first gate and didn't have the desire at all to continue. Fallout 3 however I loved and put maybe 200+ hours combined on xbox and pc.

Skyrim does look sweet though and I'm hoping I can get into it.

KiddProdigy says:

funny I felt the opposite of you guys I liked Oblivion got all the add-on and would play it an near endless amount of time but Fallout 3 wasn't what I'd expect it to I beat it but it wasn't worth my time on going back to it...Now I'm just being impatient for Skyrim.

KezraPlanes says:

I love both by I had problems getting into Oblivion, mainly due to the leveling system. But with some modding I am now playing the game as I like it, and finally enjoying it.

Abe Froeman says:

I played the hell out of both, and that wasn't even on the PC versions and still loved them. I'm really looking forward to this one.

Adiuvo says:

I felt kind of the same way. Exploration was lacking in both Fallout's compared to Oblivion. I think it was the setting, though it was better for roleplaying.
