New Xbox 360 Dashboard is Very Kinect-Friendly

by Justin B. on June 6, 2011 @ 10:16 am

Microsoft has revealed the latest iteration of the Xbox 360 dashboard which will support complete controller-free navigation, live TV, YouTube and Bing search. The new streamlined interface can be controlled with the standard controller, your voice, or just your hands.

You will also now be able to leverage the power of Bing on your Xbox 360 to search for new content from any number of Xbox services. You will, however, not be granted a web browser of any sort so all the searches are done locally for Xbox content.

Topping off the presentation on the new dashboard Microsoft revealed their plans to bring live TV to the Xbox 360 in the United States with a quick glimpse at the Live TV dashboard page which revealed CBS as a potential partner.

Youtube support was applauded, which I found hilarious. I don't understand why Microsoft still haven't made a browser for the 360.

MenaceInc says:

Ugh, I don't like it. Reminds me a LOT of Windows Media Center.

THIS.

Seriously, too much Kinect and too few games.

Sousanator says:

I wonder if it will let navigate through my USB drive and let me control the videos by voice, or if it's only going to work with Zune/Integrated videos

I'd be very disappointed if it is just the latter

Seth says:

Since they pretty much have avoided doing that while adding support for the Zune,Netflix,Hulu plus what makes you think they add it now. The voice control does not even work that well in a liveing room with the tv while the speakers are in use and sometimes it hears the voice from the tv and pauses the movie or something it kinda annoying, the only time I ever use it when I Pause the video and walk away and throw the remote somewhere. Or during a really quite part of the movie

Robby says:

All this Kinect stuff has made me want to get one, especially with all these games going to start supporting it now.

And personally I think a web browser isn't needed on the xbox. Browsing the web seems more fit to do on a computer. I never touch the internet browser on my PS3 for that very reason.
