Raptr Launches New Site with Social News

by Justin B. on May 26, 2011 @ 8:57 am

It’s not often we cover news from another website, but Raptr has just launched their new site which places a new emphasis on social news. Similar to the Digg, Reddit and specifically N4G, Ratpr’s new site will allow users to submit stories and vote them up or down. The more votes a story receives the  more prominence it will receive on the site.

Unlike other social news sites, Raptr has a strong focus on delivering news that matters to you. Want to know more about the NGP, or Batman: Arkham City? Just follow their respective topic pages and the site will automatically sort through the related content and display the new and important news stories straight on the front page.

Now what does this have to do with us? We’ll we’ve been in contact with Raptr over the past few weeks and they’ve built us our own topic page where you can follow us and receive our news stories as they come out. While it’s a little sparse now, we’ll be updating it with new content as we create it. You’ll also be able to help us out by submitting our stories to the site (it’s really simple) if we ever forget and help us get the word out there that we run an awesome site.

Follow us after the break as we break down their new site and what our new partnership will mean for you.

While Raptr will filter news stories based on what games and topics you follow on their site, they also can deliver news stories to you based on your gaming activity. So long as you have shared the relevant data with Raptr you will witness your news feed aggregated with news similar to the games you play and how often you play them. This is not your typical social news site. It will display stories relating to your interests, making each page unique to you. You won’t see the same thing everyone else sees unless you share the exact same interests with them.

Ideally though eXophase will be the only location you get your news, but we’re only a few people. We’re now giving you the option to follow us on Raptr as we help them in the launch of their new platform. Raptr will allow us to reach even more individuals than we do now and provide you with a new avenue to catch our news.

Help us by helping out Raptr. Follow us on Raptr too and send them any feedback if you have any. I’ve taken a few screenshots of the various pages and functions of the new site which you can check out below the post.

Is that it? Not entirely. Stay with us and we might have more to share in the coming weeks.

Is this good or bad? Digg and reddit are cool but N4G is retarded.

FrozenIpaq says:

It just launched so it is hard to tell. Digg seems to have lost a lot of it's touch and N4G is just...well retarded as you have stated. Reddit seems to focus more on the cool things or silly jokes. This will probably be the most serious of them all, especially if their algorithm works like they say it will (each user sees a different dashboard/home screen based on their gaming interests, something no other site has really done in this category).

That actually sounds pretty neat. We just have to see if they pick up steam :P

I think this has great potential. There was recently a TED talk on the filter bubble and what better way to solve the problem by making sites to filter things like this will, but make google not filter . Give people the choice.

I really like Raptr and ... I see it's going to take some getting use to this new design, but I wish all the best to the team.
