Crytek Wants 8GB RAM Standard In Future Consoles

Crytek graphics engineer Tiago Sousa has pointed to the lack of RAM as the ‘biggest’ crippling visual factor on dedicated console platforms today, telling Eurogamer in a recent interview that he’d like to see future boxes equipped with 8GB RAM standard.

“It’s way too low, and the biggest crippling factor from a visual perspective. I would really like to see next-gen console platforms with a minimum of 8GB,” said Sousa.

To put that lofty figure into perspective, 8GB RAM is at least 16 times of what current platforms house, given the Xbox 360 and PS3’s 512MB. That’s a massive jump, there. Hard to see it happening personally, I’d say the most we can expect from next-gen is 2-4GB.
