Sony’s NGP Global Launch Delayed by Quake?

by Justin B. on April 4, 2011 @ 4:15 pm

Sony’s PSP2, codenamed “NGP”, might not see a global launch this year as a result of the devastating earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan early last month. In speaking with Bloomberg, Jack Tretton, said that the company may have to launch the device in only one region this year as opposed to the original Asia, Europe and US release. If one were to place any bets on what market that may be it would be a safe to go with Japan. The original PSP debuted in Japan a few months before releasing in other markets.

Spiros says:

Not surprised by this at all, even without the quake I seriously doubted Sony doing a worldwide simultaneous launch for the NGP.

slicer4ever says:

i wonder if it is really because of the quake, or if it is a cheap excuse.

Spiros says:

I'm thinking cheap excuse as well, never seemed like they really believed that they could do this.

Robby says:

I thought it was coming US next year anyways... Oh well.

x3sphere says:

If it's region free looks like I'll be importing.

Yeah, same here.

I doubt they were really heading for a simultanious global release too.

And they always look for cheap excuses.

Well then, back to checking out options to import one from JP :p
