Sony To Finalize NGP Name Later This Year

by Mike Bendel on February 11, 2011 @ 12:10 pm

Sony Computer Entertainment worldwide studios president Shuhei Yoshida has confirmed that the company will finalize its name for the PSP successor — currently codenamed NGP — later this year.

“Well, NGP is the codename we’ve used since 2008. We will announce the final name of the console sometime later this year,” Yoshida told Edge Magazine.

Backed by 3G tech and touch-sensitive pads, the NGP is a versatile device. While it’s hard to see Sony dropping the PSP moniker entirely, perhaps they’ll affix something more catchy than a “2.”

What's so wrong with PSP2?

Hellcat says:

Looking at PS2 and PS3 and a future PS4.... not much....

No idea why Sony needs to "finalize" that....

I hope they call it the PSP2 so it will be in line with the home consoles, but I also wouldn't mind if they just kept calling it the Next Generation Portable since it doesn't sound bad and I named my blog that way 8)
