Dark_AleX Releases 3.71 M33-2, 1.50 Kernel Add-on v2

by Mike Bendel on October 2, 2007 @ 2:03 pm

Dark_AleX has released 3.71 M33-2, an important update for all 3.71 M33 users that includes various bug fixes and adds the functionality of Noobz’s recent USB charger plugin for PSP Slim units.

Additionally, version 2 of the 1.50 kernel patch has been released, fixing a minor sleep mode bug. The install process for both updates is the same, simply copy the UPDATE folder to the GAME folder on your memory stick and then run the respective update from the PSP.

3.71 M33-2 Changes:

- There was a bug that caused corruption when writing files of more than 32256 bytes using usb flash.
The bug has been corrected, and now the implementation is as reliable as it was when it was based on 1.50 kernel.
(tested with a full restoration of a dump)

- PSP Slim: a functionality to let the charge of battery when connecting a usb cable has been added.
This feature is based on Noobz plugin code.
By default is not enabled, you can enable it in recovery.
Note that the charge of battery may be delayed some seconds since the moment you plug the cable.

- After installing this update, program at /PSP/GAME/UPDATE will always be executed on 3.71 kernel, despite configuration.

- VSHMenu: vshmenu will not be executed when onscreen keyboard is active, to avoid the lost of
the select button function in the keyboard.
An option to reset the psp has been added.

- VSH plugins are not longer executed anymore in recovery mode, that was the cause of pseudo-bricks.

Note about two bugs remaining:

The WLAN network error, and the PSP Slim psx game change of brightness.
These two bugs are copyright of Sony :) happens too in OFW.

The WLAN network happens when there is no network available, so not a big problem.

1.50 Kernel Patch v2 Changes:

- When returning from sleep mode, 3.71 ipl was executed causing an immediate crash. Fixed.

Is this update only for the PSP Slim units?

x3sphere says:

The update works on both, regular PSPs just don't get the USB charge feature.

...OH! So THATS why it gave me an error when trying to search for new wifi locations... Only way around it was to pull the memory stick, and then search.. Kind of glad I downgraded back to 3.52M33.

Also, I am a little uneasy with the system being patched so that data executed from PSP/GAME/UPDATE will always be 3.71M33, as it circumvents current methods of downgradeing to 1.50 via 3.71M33 XMB. I'd personally like to know why that was done...

Cheezeball99 says:

Probably because you can't go to 1.50 on a Slim, so the recovery on a Slim would have to be either 3.60M33 (which can't be done on a Phat AFAIK) so the only global option thus far is 3.71M33.:) Keeping everything consistent.

homn says:

Only one update must be applied to the regular PSPs? Is it the 3.71 M33-2 Update or the 1.50 Kernel Patch Version 2?

x3sphere says:

The 1.50 kernel patch is not required, it is optional and allows regular PSP users to run 1.50 kernel homebrew on 3.71 M33. However it is strongly recommended that you install the 3.71 M33-2 update.

dmhchew says:

Must I install 1.50 Kernel before installing add-on 2 to apply all function? thanks

ultragoregrind says:

awesome :)

thanks dax!

x3sphere says:

@dmhchew: nope, just install version 2.

dmhchew says:

Thanks:biggrin:

reandaya says:

im on 3.71 m33 and just updated with first add on kernel...how im going to this "If you have 1.50 addon, make sure you have the kernel of game folder configured to 3.71, or the

program will not even start." please help

x3sphere says:

In recovery mode (hold R during boot to enter), there is an option to set the GAME folder homebrew. By default it should already be 3.71, but if you changed it, then switch it back to 3.71.

reandaya says:

i was to update to 3.71 m33-2, before i th update my kernel was on 3.71. now when im trying to update to 2nd add on of kernel 1.50 i go tthis message "incorrect or inexistent 150.PBP at the root" i put the program t program to /PSP/GAME/UPDATE

x3sphere says:

Then download the 150.PBP here:

http://72.29.74.204/~exophase/external/150.PBP

and place it on the memory stick root. Root being X:/

reandaya says:

thanks a lot i'm good. appreciate everything more power to exophase

Hanzo_f19 says:

thanks again, DA

RJC4LIFE says:

Is the usb charge a hardware or software based? If the latter then is it possible? Thanks Dax.

I was kinda hoping for fixes for some prx's, naming popsloader. Patience...

viper13 says:

i cant load any hombrew games with this 3.52m33-4 it just loads the umd i have in my psp and with out a umd an error pops up. i tried 2 update 2 version 3.71m33 but it says i need fimware 3.52m33-3 or higher and i currently have 3.52m33-4 can some1 help

viper13 says:

srry forgot 2 add, wat does it mean in the 3.71m33-2 instructions were it says

"If you are in the fat psp, make sure you have configured the psp to run the game folder in the 3.XX kernel"

x3sphere says:

Press R during bootup to enter Recovery mode and enter Configuration to make sure that the Game folder homebrew kernel is set to 3.X

Acerthief says:

I updated to 1.5 kernel v2, and i still have the problem.

In fact, i started to have the ipl problem AFTER i installed v2.

Tried three memory sticks, tried to reinstalled 3.71M33, same thing.

One of the oddest moments... lol

Any help would be appreciated.:D

Doubleagent74 says:

Just installed it a few days ago, and it works great! Almost all my homebrew works now (except gPSP, which I can get to work with eLoader). Maybe we should start a PayPal account so we can all chip in and buy DarkAlex a drink. :)

RJC4LIFE says:

Just get the Hen-D version of gPsp, it works great.

Chilly Willy says:

D_A has a paypal link on his page. I donated $50 USD a while ago.

orprepus says:

A little lost - trying to install the 1.50 - already have 3.71 installed. Saw 3.71m33-2 is availalbe, but I can't see GAME folder? Unless they are hidden? Folders via USB connection are DIC, GPS, NET, REGISTRY, UPDATER and VSH. Any ideas?

orprepus says:

Forgot to mention I got a fat one.

MenaceInc says:

thats strange...gPSP works great for me even with 1.50 v2...

and yea,i guess i should donate to D_A ...i'll see about it when i get my backdated wages :)

Doubleagent74 says:

Maybe I'm thinking of something else. I just fired up gPSP and found that it not only works without eLoader, but runs more smoothly than it did before--the sound used to stutter and lag whenever I played Metroid Fusion or CV: Aria of Sorrow, but not anymore.

I did notice something unusual, though: when I installed DGen, I noticed that I didn't need to have a folder called "dgen%" in the GAME150 folder. In the past, installing 1.50 HB required copying two folders: in this case, one called "dgen" and one called "dgen%." Now, all I need is the first one. Strange, but not at all unwelcome.

Acerthief says:

the kind with two folders are "kxploit" (a kind of eboot format)

some jsut need one folder, but it will not run on 1.5 unless you've patched with DA's kxploit-patcher.

kman says:

I noticed that after upgrading to v3.71 m33-2, I tried to play more than 3 games on a 4gb memory stick but only some of them work. Did you guys notice this too? What could be the problem?

chemist says:

I added the 3.71 M33-2 Update but when i try to add the 1.50 Kernel Patch Version 2 it wont work and it says incorrect 150.pbp.

Am i suppossed to add the 1.50 kernal patch.

nevermind im didnt read the previous posts...I figured out what im supposed to do

supaquickt says:

I take it I can just install the 1.5 kernel patch v 2 straight onto a psp (phat of course) running 3.71 M33-2? ie I don't have to install 1.5 kernel patch v 1 first? Thxs

EDIT: Think I got my answer, on the first page ;-) its a big yes I believe, correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks anyway.

Crono254 says:

is there any specific order i have to install these two in?

first the 3.71 M33-2 and then afterwards 1.5 kernel?

do all of these updates, including the kernel, work on the slim?

icedman204 says:

the 1.5 patch doesn't work on the PSP slim

x3sphere says:

only install the 3.71 M33-2 update then, 1.5 kernel patch doesn't work for PSP Slim as icedman said.

Crono254 says:

thanks.

without using the kernel, what are my limitations?

i tried searching for what it is for, and only found the answer that SOME

homebrew applications will not work without the kernel.

just as long as the psp iso's, playstation iso's\cso's, and other emulators would

work then i would be satisfied.

x3sphere says:

ISOs work fine... but for applications that don't work under the 3.X kernel there's always eLoader, which will load most 1.5 applications on 3.71 M33.

Gerrard says:

now i'm using 3.71m33-2 with addon150(2)

can i put change those theme? if yes, is it the same concept? vsh-resource?

Gerrard says:

it say there's a brick if use vsh plugin, wad is dat?

x3sphere says:

That was fixed in 3.71 M33-2. A vsh plugin is one that runs in the PSP's main menu screen (XMB).

Gerrard says:

den wad abt those theme? can i still be able to customise?

x3sphere says:

If the theme is 3.71 M33 compatible, then yes.

Gerrard says:

DA came out with universal unbricker, and i heard dat it say it is install in 3.71m33-2? wad does dat mean? and if we create the new univsersal unbricker in the battery, can it still use for gameplaY? and wads the purpose of making it?

Acerthief says:

it flashes your PSP directly to 3.71M33-2, rather than the older one that downgrades your PSP to 1.5. so it skips the "downgrading" process.

and no after you made it you cant use it for game play unless you convert it back. that's why we recommed people to buy an extra battery for it.

the main purpose is to unbrick you PSP, or flash to 3.71M33-2

Gerrard says:

thanks anyway, so is jus for in case!

starry says:

Followed the guide and successfully update to 3.71m33-2 with 1.50 kernel v2. Thanks so much for the help

weeman says:

I have just updated to firmware 3.71 from Sony...i then found out about the custom firmware that is going round and tried to install 3.71 m-22 and the new kernel with it.

!!One problem though!!

Everytime i go to install the firmware or the kernel i get an error code appear.

80020148

How do i get round this? HHEELLPP!

x3sphere says:

You need to be on 3.71 M33 to install the 3.71 M33-2 update

Only way to install custom firmware on official 3.71 is by using the Pandora battery + magic memory stick.

More details here: http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=3780

normantjtan says:

CAN I ASK U GUY SOMETHING? wat the the 1.50 Kernel Patch Version 2 for?

x3sphere says:

It's for running firmware 1.5 homebrew on 3.71 M33.

donsammy says:

im getting the following error on slim, when trying to upgrade the 1.50 kernel ad on

this program for standard psp

Roe says:

what error?

donsammy says:

this program is for standard psp

Roe says:

Thats bvecause its for the psp phat not slim

donsammy says:

is there a way to install a kernel 150 on slim

wanna play my emulators and homebrew games

Roe says:

no there is no way. You will have to wait and see if there will ever be 1.50 kernel or wait for the homebrew to be converted

donsammy says:

what about the e loader, could i run homebrews on slim wwith e loader???

Roe says:

I'm sure you could run some. Try it and see for yourself.

donsammy says:

is there any how to on e loader??????????

x3sphere says:

Search around the forums, nearly every emulator has been re-released for Slim. I have NesterJ, DGEN, SNESTYL, and gpSP all working fine on my Slim.

eLoader is great but I really haven't found a need for it. To use it you just start it up like any other homebrew app (copy to GAME folder) and it will display a list of all the homebrews on your PSP. From there you just select which one you want to play.

licov09 says:

so you actually need a pandora battery to get 3.71 m33 i got 3.52 m33-2 is it worth the trouble of updating?

Cov

Acerthief says:

you don't actually. it's just that the pandora doesn't downgrade to 1.5 but instead go to 3.71M33-2 directly saving the trouble ;).

If you want to upgrade without the pandora battery, check out the guide HERE

Logic says:

hi, i just got version 3.71 M33-2 and i tryed downloading a few games but i just cant figure out how to put them onto my psp properly, can anybody help please?

Logic says:

homebrew games i mean of course

x3sphere says:

They go in PSP/GAME

However if the homebrew still does not work then you may need to install the 1.5 kernel patch. It's available in the first post of this thread.

http://forums.exophase.com/showthread.php?t=3814

DesolateRaindrop says:

hey i just downgraded my psp to 3.71 m33-2..and i have slim..what do i need to add on in order to play homebrew games

x3sphere says:

Most homebrew games should work fine just by placing them in the PSP/GAME folder located on your memory stick. There's nothing you need to add.

DesolateRaindrop says:

but i didnt add the 1.5 kernel thing..

DesolateRaindrop says:

wait but i didnt add the 1.5 kernel because it doesnt work on a slim..i just downgraded it with a pandora battery and magic memory stick..what do i have to like do to get the games to be playable...or like what kind of games do i have to add

Chilly Willy says:

The only way to make 1.5-based games work on the slim is to use eLoader 1.0, and it doesn't work on all 1.5-based apps, just some of them.

billz320 says:

Hey I get wat yall r sayin... But I Did everything... I have Version 3.71 M33-3 N I Downloaded Da kernel 1.50 v2 N I put Da folder N Games Like stated N I also Have Da 1.50 Eboot N Da root of Da Memory card as well... n it still says "incorrect or inexistent 150.PBP at the root"... Wat Do I Do 4 Dis update 2 work??... PLz Help

x3sphere says:

If you are positive the 150.PBP is named correctly and is on the memory stick root, then there's only two possibilities:

The 150.PBP file you downloaded is corrupted, try re-downloading it.

or

You have a faulty / corrupted memory stick. Try formatting.

Acerthief says:

np mate, everyone starts without knowing everything.

After you throw everything into the memory stick, go to "Game" -> "Memory Stick" on your XMB (Main Screen on the PSP) choose it and you'll see the installer. :D

marty1678 says:
