2K’s supernatural shooter is receiving the sequel treatment in the form of The Darkness II, the company announced today. It’s slated for a release this fall on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.

Staying true to its comic book origins, 2K promises a “stylized and beautiful nightmare” that features hand-painted, noir-style visuals. Plot-wise, the title takes place two years after the original, starring mobster Jackie Estacado. Fraught with the emotional toll of recurringĀ memorties of his girlfriend’s death, a sudden attempt on Estacado’sĀ life manages to push these feelings of despair and anger to their breaking point, stirring up the demonic forces bottled within.

Digital Extremes — the team responsible for the multiplayer component of BioShock 2 — is handling development duties. Starbreeze of The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay fame created the original.
